Branstone - ISLE OF WIGHT

What's around Branstone?

Branstone is a small hamlet three miles away from the eastern coast of the Isle of Wight, close to the beautiful seaside resort of Sandown and around six miles from the county town of Newport. This small and friendly village community is wonderful to spend a cottage holiday in as it is near to some of the bigger towns on the Isle of Wight yet is tranquil and has its own charm and character.

Located in the hamlet of Branstone is the Branstone Farm Studies Centre which opened in 1973 and aims to give children a glimpse into what life is like on a working farm. With pigs, sheep, cows and poultry and acres of land, visitors can take a guided tour through the farm, learning about the lives of the farmers and handling the animals in a fun and safe environment. You may even get to feed them! This is a great opportunity for those coming to Branstone with their children and looking to give them an educational experience.

Places to visit near Branstone

Branstone is in a very good location on the Isle of Wight, close to the towns of Shanklin and Sandown and under three miles from the coast. The lovely village atmosphere of Branstone is perfect if you are wishing to escape from the hustle and bustle of busy cities and towns, but if you do feel like exploring other parts of the island, then the towns close to Branstone are beautiful and worth visiting as there is a lot to do.

Branstone itself does not offer any major tourist attractions. There is a garden centre to visit if you enjoy browsing for plants.

Shanklin is just three miles from Branstone, and there are many things to see and do here. The historic gorge of Shanklin Chine makes a great afternoon out, with spectacular waterfalls, exhibitions on subjects such as shipwrecks and smuggling and a great Heritage Centre. Soaking up the natural beauty of the woodlands with its abundance of wildlife is a wonderful feeling and it a must-see if in Shanklin.

If visiting the very nearby Sandown then a visit to Dinosaur Isle – Britain’s very first purpose-built dinosaur museum – is very special and unique and makes a fun and educational day trip. Visitors can take a walk back hundreds of millions of years to meet life-sized models of some of the dinosaurs whose fossils have been found on the island. This is a great trip for anyone fascinated with these prehistoric creatures.
