Places to visit in Niton - ISLE OF WIGHT

Niton

Niton is a large village on the southern coast of the Isle of Wight and is home to a couple of cosy pubs, a pottery workshop and a fair few churches. It is a close-knit community of just over 1000 people and is very close by to the seaside resort of Ventnor. Set on the higher part of the cliff which splits the area into two sections, Niton and Niton Undercliff, the village of Niton lies in a cavity and is set in absolutely stunning coastline scenery.

The main attraction in Niton, by the Undercliff, is St. Catherine’s Lighthouse which dates back to an incredible 1323. The present building, however, was constructed in 1838 and its rich history can be discovered with a guided tour of the lighthouse which is fantastic for those with an interest in maritime and nautical history. With beautiful views over the southern coast of the Isle of Wight, a visit to St. Catherine’s Lighthouse makes a wonderful afternoon out and it is extremely relaxing watching the sun set in the horizon from this place.
