Places to visit near Sandown - ISLE OF WIGHT

Sandown is a popular Victorian seaside resort on the eastern coast of the Isle of Wight, and is one of the prettiest beach towns on the island, with golden sands and warm temperatures. There is stunning chalk down land, such as Culver Down to the north, and lots of rare birds and flowers in the surrounding woodlands, and Sandown is a haven for nature lovers and those keen on taking walks and rambles amongst the unaffected scenery.

With an array of pubs and restaurants to dine in, plenty of holiday homes and cottages and unique boutiques by the beach, Sandown is the perfect place to stay in on the Isle of Wight, and there are also several attractions to visit in the area. The historical Sandown Pier, which opened in 1879, makes a wonderful visit for both adults and children, as there are play areas for the kids, arcade games, an outdoor funfair, bowling, and crazy golf, as well as several cafes.

This geological centre is home to models of life-sized dinosaurs as well as educational and fun displays on the history of these incredible creatures on the Isle of Wight, as countless fossils of these prehistoric giants have been discovered on the shores of the island.

Sandham Gardens in Sandown is also fun for the family, as there are plenty of activities to partake in, from crazy golf to skating, which both kids and big kids can join in on!

The lovely seaside town of Shanklin is only about three miles from Sandown, and makes a great day trip if you wish to try out a different settlement on the shoreline. The Shanklin Old Town should be visited, with its gorgeous thatched cottages that look like they are from a time long-gone, and Shanklin Chine makes a great visit with beautiful waterfalls and forestry to be explored as well as the old town with its charming thatched cottages and pubs.

Overall, Sandown is a very popular place to relax and soak up the beach vibe of the Isle of Wight, as well as being surrounded by some great attractions and a lively atmosphere.
