Bembridge Windmill on the Isle of Wight

Two miles north-east of Whitecliff Bay is the large village of Bembridge, which is home to the Isle of Wight’s only windmill. This stunning windmill dates back to around 1700 and is a National Trust site. Visitors can climb this incredible structure and learn about how the machinery was used in the past to operate the windmill, and this trip makes a very enjoyable afternoon out for those who have an interest in technology and history.

As well as plenty of pubs and restaurants in which to sample a tasty meal, Bembridge has its own Heritage Centre, with exhibitions showing the village’s history through artefacts, maps, medals and photographs, and makes a very educational visit.

The beautiful Culver Down is located very close to Whitecliff Bay. This stunning area consists of open chalk cliffs, lovely country cottages and a cosy and friendly pub, the Culver Haven, and nature lovers will adore the vast array of birds and flowers that can be spotted near to the down.

About three miles from Whitecliff Bay is the Lilliput Antique Doll and Toy Museum, which is a really wonderful place to visit if you are bringing your children with you on holiday or if you have a particular fondness for antiques. Housed in a cottage, this museum is home to over two thousand toys, the oldest of which dates back to a whopping 2000 BC, and there are plenty of things to see such as doll houses, toy trains, teddy bears and rocking horses.
