Chillerton is a village near the cenre of the Isle of Wight, under five miles from the main county town of Newport and the larger village of Chale. Home to a thriving farming community, Chillerton is a great place to rent a self-catering cottage if wanting to experience the daily lives of a charming village neighbourhood but at the same time, would like to be close to the hustle and bustle of larger town life. With stunning scenery, mystical hills, nearby forest and woodlands and wondrous fresh air, Chillerton makes a lovely and romantic cottage break in the Isle of Wight, for those wanting to escape.

The country lanes around Chillerton are peaceful enough for horse riding or cycling outside the main holiday season and anyone who is able to take holidays outside the main UK school holidays, is wise to do so.

An interesting thing to visit while in Chillerton is the unfinished promontory fort from the Iron Age, which is situated on a sharp cliff. This incomplete structure is located at Chillerton Down and is also home to the Isle of Wight transmission station, which can be seen from most areas of the island and is used to transmit television and radio in the island.

The village and civil parish of Chale is located less than 5 miles south of Chillerton, and is interesting for a visit due to its incredible 12th century church and lovely coastline. Chale is also very close by to the Blackgang Chine amusement park which is a great family fun attraction to visit. Located on an old coastal ravine, the park has a Dinosaurland, maze and rollercoaster to enjoy and explore, and is a must-see if on a trip to the Isle of Wight.

About 4 miles north of Chillerton is the thriving county town of Newport, which is one of the busiest places on the Isle of Wight and is home to over 20,000 people. If you want to see a different side to the island after a peaceful stay in or visit to one of the smaller villages, then a trip to Newport is a must. With the Museum of Island History, you can learn more about the Isle of Wight, going way back to the age of the dinosaurs, or there is the Classic Boat Museum, great for those interested in nautical history.

As Chillerton is located near the centre of the Isle of Wight, nothing is too far away, with most of the island’s main attractions taking only a ten minute drive to get to. It is an ideal place to visit for those looking to escape city life and explore a quaint village on the island.
