The village of Nettlestone is situated by the north eastern coast of the Isle of Wight, close by to the most populous town on the island, Ryde. The village has a rich history which dates back to 1086 where the village was mentioned in the Domesday Book and features a manor house from the late 16th century. With stunning farmland and a close-knit community feel, Nettlestone is a lovely area in which to rent a self-catering holiday cottage on the Isle of Wight, and as it is close by to the sea and busier towns, you can experience both a quiet and a thriving atmosphere.

There are lots of interesting places to visit in and around Nettlestone, and one of them is the Hersey Nature Reserve, which is located just a few minutes from the village in a secluded area. Nature lovers will absolutely love these marshlands teeming with an assortment of birds.

Puckpool Park is one of the most exciting places that you can take your children to on the Isle of Wight. With crazy golf, tennis courts, a putting green and a bowling green, as well as tea rooms, a visit to this park makes for an exciting and enjoyable day out.

Seaview Wildlife Encounter is another brilliant place for adults and children alike, located in the very close by village of Seaview. The Wildlife Encounter is an interactive experience where visitors can feed and stroke certain animals at the reserve. Animals include flamingos, penguins, alpacas and llamas, otters and meerkats, and you will love visiting here as much as your kids!

Nettlestone is only 4 miles from Ryde, the bustling seaside town and civil parish. Home to the oldest pier in the United Kingdom and a lovely sandy beach, Ryde also has lots of exciting things to do. The town hosts five carnivals each year and there is also a bowling alley, ice rink and lots of pubs, bars and cafes to try.

Appley Park in Ryde is an adventure playground with a pirate ship, golf course and lots of slides, which is another great place to take kids to, though the seaside beach atmosphere itself may provide enough entertainment for you, with its golden sands and lively feel about it.

Nettlestone is a quaint village with lots of things to see and do, and staying in this pretty area is ideal for those wanting to be near Ryde but without the frenzied feel of the town.
