Places to visit near Newbridge - ISLE OF WIGHT

Newbridge

Newbridge is a little hamlet located in the western part of the Isle of Wight between Shalfleet and Calbourne and this gorgeous settlement sits on top of a small hill, overlooking some incredible scenery. The hamlet is a great choice if you are looking to experience a quiet and serene area of the Isle of Wight, or one which is not visited so often and so leaves plenty to be discovered by you. Away from the coast and the busier towns of the island, Newbridge has self-catering cottages available to rent, as well as a popular holiday park with swimming pools to relax in and a village shop.

Although the hamlet itself is very quiet, there are some other villages very nearby which are worth the visit, such as Calbourne, or you can easily take a day trip to the coast as nothing is ever too far away on the Isle of Wight. The popular seaside resorts of Ryde and Ventnor are only each about a half hour’s drive away, and so you can certainly blend the quiet inland countryside of the island with the thriving beach town atmosphere on a trip to the Isle of Wight.

Places to visit near Newbridge

Newbridge itself has little amenities but is pretty and quaint and definitely worth staying in to taste a lesser-known part of the Isle of Wight. Close by to the hamlet, however, is Calbourne, which can be visited on a daily basis from Newbridge as it is less than 2 miles away. With a stream passing through the village, Calbourne is home to a cosy pub and a historic church as well as the famous Winkle Street. Winkle Street is one of the most picturesque places on the whole of the Isle of Wight, and the row of gorgeous thatched cottages that look over the stream on this street is featured on many a postcard, enticing visitors to the island. With country walks galore to go on, Calbourne makes a brilliant choice to visit if staying in Newbridge.

Just three miles away from Newbridge is another hamlet worth visiting, Chessell. Chessell is home to the interesting Chessell Pottery Barns, which is a small pottery where visitors can paint hand-made pottery, or indulge in a delicious cream tea and a scone. The pottery has a working studio in which tourists are welcome to visit, as well as a shop, the Gift Barn, which sells an exciting mixture of wooden toys, handmade cards and Chessell Ware.
