This part of the island is possibly the most popular because tourists want to see the landmark Needles. A selection of tourist attractions have grown up around Alum Bay offering tourists a variety of things to do for a complete day out. There is a large car park, eateries and toilets.

OTHER PLACES TO VISIT NEAR ALUM BAY

oLD bATTERY tHE nEEDLESWalk uphill from Alum Bay to view the Needles themselves. There is a vantage point for photographs. The National Trust Old Battery, New Battery and Rocket launch site are also worth visiting.

The Needles Breezer bus (www.islandbuses.info) passes every half hour or so that takes people from the car park up to the Old Battery. The fare was £2.50 one way, in 2012, which is a fairly hefty price for the mile or so but you may wish to pay this for young children and the elderly. The bus is the open-topped tour bus that allows people to hop on and off all day for a certain fee. It is much better value to visit Alum Bay and the Old Battery on a day that you purchase a daily ticket for the tour. Cars are not permitted.
