Places to visit near Atherfield - ISLE OF WIGHT

Atherfield is located on the south western side of the Isle of Wight and is an area rich in beautiful countryside with winding lanes, expansive fields and dreamy rivers and streams. It is also situated near to the coast, and the wonderful Atherfield Bay should be explored if you happen to be in this area. Atherfield Bay is a haven for fossil hunters as it is one of the most plentiful areas with cretaceous fossils and brachiosaurus dinosaur bones dating back as far as 30 million years ago.

As well as fossil hunting, Atherfield offers plenty of sea activities for people visiting and staying in the area with sailing and water skiing available. Renting a cottage in this area is a great idea as you are close to some larger towns but are generally away from the busyness of larger areas and can immerse yourself in the fresh sea and country air, making Atherfield a great place to stay in.

Isle of Wight Owl and Falconry CentreAtherfield is located by the coast and is near to other villages and towns in the Isle of Wight. Chale lies to the south along the coastal road and Brighstone to the north.

If you want to look a little further afield then why not visit the Owl and Falconry Centre set in the servant’s quarters of 18th century country house, Appuldurcombe. The centre has some incredible flying displays and is definitely worth a visit.
