Totland Bay - ISLE OF WIGHT

What's around Totland Bay?

Located on the western side of the Isle of Wight, Totland Bay is a gorgeous inlet that includes the serene village of Totland. The shingle beach at Totland Bay is lovely in the summer months for sunbathing and by the pier, which was built in 1880 but is no longer open to the public, there is a little café serving classic British seaside food such as fish and chips which should definitely be sampled!

walking the coastal pathThe shelter at the start of the pier is used as an art gallery today, housing different collections of the medium in the form of paintings and sculpture, and just along from the bay is part of the Isle of Wight Coastal Path for those who love a good walk while on holiday.

Totland Bay and its village make a lovely place to rent a cottage by the sea with sea views, as the calming coastal atmosphere and fresh sea air will make your trip to the Isle of Wight extremely enjoyable. The bay is situated very close to Alum Bay, another popular coastal inlet, which is famous for being the home of the large chalk block formation, ‘The Needles’. An open-top double decker bus called The Needles Tour serves the village of Totland, so that visitors and locals residing here can get a direct tour to this incredible creation of nature.

There is plenty to do in this area, including visiting the amusement park at the top of the cliff leading down to the bay, where there is an array of souvenir shops. You can purchase gifts including the traditional product of colour sands from the bay’s multi-coloured sand cliffs. These sands were popular in the Victorian era, and today, even though tourists are not allowed to collect their own sand from the cliffs, you can purchase it in the many shops by the cliff top, with varying coloured layers in different shaped jars – including one in the shape of the Isle of Wight!
