Located in the southern part of the Isle of Wight is the village and civil parish of Wroxall. Being situated very close to the bigger seaside resorts of Shanklin and Ventnor, there is plenty to do in and around the village, and although Wroxall itself is small and charming, it has great character of its own. Renting a self-catering cottage in Wroxall is a great idea for those wishing to stay in an area on the island that is surrounded by lush countryside. Those who love the rustic way of life will enjoy staying in a lodge which you will feel is your own, with fully-equipped kitchens, gorgeous 4 poster beds and hot tubs.

The parish church of St. John’s is located in Wroxall, which dates from 1875, and there is also Wroxall Copse next to the village which is certainly worth exploring by nature lovers. The copse is made up of a dense forestry where rare flora and fauna may be spotted, such as the red squirrel. Taking morning strolls beneath the thickets is a great way to start any day on the Isle of Wight, and you will definitely appreciate the true beauty of the island with a stay in Wroxall.

Places to visit near Wroxall

A definite must-visit place when in Wroxall is Appuldurcombe House. This large 18th century baroque mansion used to be owned by the Worsley family and is today managed by English Heritage and is open to the public. This incredible country house, in which construction began in 1702, is fascinating for those with an interest in history. Appuldurcombe started as a priory before becoming a convent, and once the Worsley’s took hold of the site, the family began to replace the Tudor mansion with the house that we can see today.

A fascinating attraction located within Appuldurcombe House is the Owl and Falconry Centre. This incredible and educational centre features beautiful species of birds such as eagles, hawks and owls, and with flying displays daily at the centre, where these magnificent birds swoop over Appuldurcombe Valley, it is extremely exciting. With a lovely gift shop, perfect for purchasing souvenirs for loved ones, outdoor and indoor play areas, the Aviary Café for those who are peckish and an indoor flight barn for those inevitable days where the weather doesn’t hold up, a trip to the Owl and Falconry Centre is a unique and thrilling place to visit on the Isle of Wight.
